An exciting new learning feature in the Language Block is already capturing the attention of learners at PEPPS Motheong School. The recently installed phonics board, placed just outside the classroom, has quickly become a popular stop for learners eager to practise their reading skills.
The idea, created by Mrs T and Mrs Moyo, introduces an engaging way for learners to interact with important phonics patterns and frequently used words throughout the school day. By placing the board in a shared space, learners have additional opportunities to pause, point, sound out words, and practise together outside of formal lesson time.
Consistent exposure to the building blocks of reading is essential for developing confidence and fluency. Simple yet effective tools like this phonics board help reinforce foundational literacy skills while encouraging curiosity and active participation among learners.
It has been wonderful to see learners naturally drawn to the board, working together and supporting one another as they strengthen their reading abilities.
Well done to Mrs T and Mrs Moyo for transforming an ordinary space into a meaningful learning opportunity and helping ensure that our learners continue to build strong foundations in reading.
