At PEPPS Motheong School, the safety and wellbeing of our learners, staff, and visitors remain a top priority. This responsibility is supported by dedicated individuals who work diligently each day to ensure that the school environment remains safe and welcoming.
Mr Raymond Hompa is one of our most trusted security guards stationed at the school gate. Together with his colleague, Sipho Lee, he plays an important role in safeguarding the school while greeting visitors with professionalism and a friendly smile every day.
Recently, Mr Hompa demonstrated exceptional alertness and courage when a taxi experienced serious mechanical trouble and stopped near the school gate. Noticing that something was wrong with the vehicle, he acted immediately. Without hesitation, Mr Hompa retrieved a fire extinguisher and rushed to assist. Before the flames in the engine could spread, he successfully extinguished the fire, preventing the situation from escalating.
Thankfully, none of the passengers were injured, and the taxi owner avoided greater damage, with the vehicle requiring only engine repairs. Mr Hompa’s quick thinking and decisive action helped prevent what could have become a far more dangerous incident.
In recognition of his bravery and dedication, the security company honoured Mr Hompa with the Employee of the Month Award. This recognition highlights his commitment to protecting those around him and his willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty.
We are incredibly grateful to have committed and capable staff members who serve and protect our school community each day. Mr Hompa’s actions remind us that true heroes are often found in the everyday roles that keep our community safe.
